Goals, Intentions & Affirmations to work towards in 2021
Goodbye 2020 - A Year To Forget
So, 2020, the year that'll long live on in our memories for all the wrong reasons, is FINALLY over! Unfortunately, I don't think 2021 will magically change into a better year just because we want it to. We have a long way to go. But knowing that you're starting off a new year living in this absurd reality feels somehow easier than having it thrown at you, seemingly out of nowhere, halfway through. Nine months into the-new-normal, we've become used to not being able to go out without a facemask, seeing a select few friends at a time, and sadly, making at-home cappuccinos, avo-toast & cocktails.
Goals & Intentions 2021 Style
All of this means that my goals and intentions for 2021 come with a bit of an *asterisk. Yes, there are some that are recurring resolutions; hopes & dreams that I will always have. But there are also some goals that I've put on hold....or lower down the list (travel being the main one), because the sad reality is they're unlikely to happen in 2021. That said, I want to start off this year with a more positive mindset. I'm incredibly lucky & grateful to have weathered this storm relatively well. I have a job, I have a business that actually managed to grow in 2020, and I have family & friends who thankfully made it through healthily and kept me sane (whether that be face-to-face, FaceTime, Whatsapp, old-school letters, or any other form of communication we found to work!)
I guess you could say 2020 was my best-worst year. A year of change, compromise and uncertainty, but also a year in which I realised what I'm truly grateful for, how lucky I am to live in a beautiful house with a lot of space, to have my gorgeous friends and family and, despite everything, I have some truly beautiful memories that I'll cherish.
Small goals & daily intentions
These are the small and achievable changes I want to make to my every day life. Little things that don't feel overwhelming, but will have a great impact in the long run. Too often we set all these huge, unattainable intentions for the New Year, and feel shit when we aren't able to stick to them for more than a few weeks. But I feel like these ones are good, motivational and attainable for all!
Drink More Water
I'm more of a RedBull kinda gal, so this is a tough one for me. But it is definitely one of my main goals for the year, because I know that it'll be so beneficial to me in the long run.
Go For Daily Walks
There are so many benefits to walking! Not least of which are fresh air, Vit D (at least when it's sunny) a new perspective, and of course, exercise. It's also such an easy addition to your day & to your goals for the New Year.
Read More - goal: 30 books in 2021
I'm an English Literature Grad. and I used to love to read, but, with the growth of social media I became unable to set aside my phone and actually quiet my mind & thoughts enough to focus on reading a novel. For ages, the only times I've been able to fully immerse myself in a book of fiction was whenever I was on holiday, baking in the sun on the beach, or on lazy summer days in the pool. Basically, the days when I've been too afraid to have my phone on me for fear of dropping it in the water. This definitely needs to change! So, I'm going to set myself two goals in one: read at least 30 books in 2021 and put away the phone more often!
Write At Least One Blogpost A Week
Blogging has been a recurring goal for the last few years now. I've always enjoyed writing, and I pretend to be a writer, but, to truly claim that I need to put in more effort. Doing what you love isn't always going to be easy, and I often struggle to find topics to write about which leads me to quitting, but this year I want to just put pen to paper, or finger to keyboard, as often as possible.
Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise!!!
I've officially gone into the last year of my 20s, so I think it's time I took charge of my skincare, properly, before I hit the big 3-0 in September! I've been lucky enough to have pretty good skin (despite my aforementioned RedBull addiction) but that's not always going to be the case. And it's always better to be ahead of the curve, rather than behind it...
Learn To Use My New Camera:
I got myself a new camera recently, something I've been eyeing up for ages, and I can't wait to learn how to use it properly. Sure, I can take some pretty pictures, but I want to put in the effort to learn about shutterspeed, ISO, manual vs. automatic, you name it, I want to learn about it. It's all part of my larger goal to learn something new every week and to really create this year!
Go On More Day and Weekend Trips
As humans we tend to get stuck in a rut so easily. We work during the week and suddenly our weekends are all about recovering from the week, catching up on cleaning & laundry, and just generally not living to the fullest. This year I want to make the effort to go on day and weekend trips in my own country (at least until travel is safe, after which Paris and London are first on the list!) going to the beach, visiting places that I love but also places I've never been before. Generally, living more!
Cook A New Dish Every Week
This is such an easy & doable goal, especially if you love to cook. Set yourself one day a week, a day when you've got a little bit of extra time, and plan ahead. Look up your recipe, buy all the supplies, get a bottle of wine that'll go well with the prep AND the dish, and have fun with it. I'm already looking forward to it!
Longterm goals to work towards in 2021
These are big and long term changes I'd like to make, that'll hopefully have a lasting impact on my life. Goals to work towards throughout 2021 and beyond.
Get Fit & Healthy
I've spent a long time working on my fitness and general health, but this year things, understandably, regressed. I stopped working out as regularly as I had been, in part to blame on the gyms closing, and I started 'treating myself' a little too much. I am going to make a concerted effort not to beat myself up about it though, I refuse to focus too much on the Rona Kilos and instead accept the fact that 2020 was a year unlike any other, and if I was able to lose get fit once, I can do it again. Plus, I have to remember how much I love working out! The feeling of strength and satisfaction I get from it is worth all the sweat and effort!
Do Something New Every Week
This feels like it could become quite an overwhelming goal, but it's important to remember that these new achievements can be as big or small as you want them to be.
Find A Job That'll Make Me Happy & Give Me (Financial) Stability
I've always struggled with finding a job that would properly fulfil me whilst also giving me the (financial) stability which I'm slowly learning to accept I need to succeed. I struggle with consistency and doing the same thing all the time, so I get bored quite easily. Unfortunately, that's meant that I haven't been able to achieve many of the goals I've had. For 2021 my main goal is to find a job that'll be challenging enough to keep me fulfilled whilst giving me the stability part of me craves.
Become Financially Independent
This is directly related to the previous goal. I have been lucky enough to have always had my family to fall back on every time I was unsure of my direction in life. But, given that I'll be turning 30 this year, it has become my main goal to become financially independent. I want to track my expenses, really get to grips with where my money goes, and start saving some. I have big travel goals, and everyone knows, you need a lil cash to see the world or buy that schoolie ready to convert!
Be Open To Anything
Life is about doing new things and keeping things exciting! I have spent too much of life being scared or hiding away, but not this year! 2021 is about being open to anything and everything. Saying yes to things, before overthinking them, getting out of the rut and having some fun. It is time to be adventurous and spontaneous!
Learn To Accept Things I Can't Change
If we learnt one thing in 2020 it was to accept what we can't change. That's not to say, we shouldn't strive to make things better, but in some cases it's easier and better (for your mental health) to accept that which we can't change and live with it.
Create, Create, Create
As a blogger, baker and small business owner it is my intention to keep creating this year. Creating content in the form of photography and blogposts for The Boheme Life, creating new and exciting products for Alba Moon Cakery and building a booming small business. I'm going to hone my food photography skills, set up a photography studio to work from, write about all of my adventures, create the most gorgeous cakes and sweet treats and get back into crafting.
Be More Organised (And Stick To It!)
This is an important one for me. I love to-do lists, and buy myself all the cute calendars and journals, and yet, I'm never able to stick to my intentions of getting organised. I lose my journals, I write half a to-do list on one scrap of paper and the other half on another scrap, and so it continues. But this year things are going to change, it is time to get my ducks in a row.
